I attach report from the Chief Detective Inspector with copy of refused charge and statement by sergeant in charge at Central re incident of two Cermans and a Dane being met by Police

Constable A33 Reid coming from a brothel in Old Bailey at about

1.30 in the morning. There was really nothing in this.

2. Police Sergeant 61, Adlington states that on the night

of the 30th ultimo at 10.15 p.m. he met Lance-Sergeant Cockle

opposite No.2 College Gardens. There appeared to be a great

jubilation going on by what appeared to be about 10 persons. The

noise was a nuisance and I called the boy and told him to tell his

mater to tell his guests to make less noise. The master shortly afterwards came out of the front door and I spoke to him person-

ally and asked him to stop the noise or I should have to report

the matter. The noise then stopped and I went away. The master

of the house was a German and I do not know his name. He was a

tall man. This was the night of the last publication of the S.M.S

"Enden's capture of British boats.

3. Rev. Machonachie of Union Church who lives close to the

German Club states that the Germans are behaving more quietly and

orderly than ever at the German Club. He remembers that on the night following the first news of the Enden's capturing British ships they appeared to have a jubilation, but he had no cause for

complaint. His only complaint is of the noise in the bowling alley which on some nights appears to go on all night. The noise is made by the balls rolling and knocking the pegs.

Above is the only evidence I have had regarding noise

and rowdiness.

I have been unable to get any evidence of their spread- ing rumours and inciting Indians and Chinese in this Colony against the United Kingdom.
